Your Union - Hard at Work

We are often asked, “What do Unions do for their members?”

Since our last newsletter, FAIR has represented our members in seventeen grievances, we have had five contract negotiations or wage re-openers, we have and two pending arbitrations, one for a local union, one with the International, and assisted countless members with questions about issues they’re facing at work.

What is a grievance?

A grievance can be a contract violation, a violation of an established past practice or a violation of a law.

Why do grievances take so long to settle?

Contracts detail the timelines and steps in the grievance process. While FAIR would like to settle the grievance the same day it is received many times it takes several meetings and exchanging of information to be able to resolve a grievance.

FAIR officers, vice-presidents and staff work hard every day on behalf of the members we are privileged to represent.
