Stewards of the Union
Union stewards have varying roles in their workplace. Some have more responsibility, performing duties typical of Union Representatives. Some help in bargaining their contracts. The common idea of a Shop Steward is someone in an organization who looks after and defends the interests of his or her fellow co-workers.
We’ve gravitated to this industry because we believe in taking care of others. Whether working with us as co-workers, with another Union or working in a non-Union job, we consider workers and those around us part of a larger family, often using the terms sisters and brothers.
Realistically, all those who work for a Union act daily as Stewards. We “look after” or “take care of” our members’ interests. If you would like to step up and help FAIR as a volunteer with your Local or region, please contact one of the officers or Regional Vice Presidents listed here.
